The NSIDC EGIS team is developing a GIS version of ATL08 which will require assistance for working with it efficiently once it's published. The ATL08 feature service will overload GIS software if it is not reduced to a workable AOI. This tutorial will guide a user on working with the feature service in a tractable way in QGIS.
There are at least two reasons for including this type of material in our cookbook:
- Modeling on PO.DAAC's cookbook. This DAAC hosts the only other feature service for a NASA dataset at this time on EGIS.
- There needs to be a location for helping users with this data in QGIS for FOSS4G access as the ArcGIS enterprise portals for this dataset (and potential future datasets we put into EGIS)
[I envision a whole sections for the Cookbook under our "Working with Data" section that is "GIS" ... perhaps that is a good way to bin it away from most of our coding work? But this is just a question about location for where the tutorial described in this issue should live.]
